HPU Outfitters gets a makeover
October 27, 2023
Slane Student Center is one of the main hubs for student activity on HPU’s campus. Slane is an ideal place to workout, shoot hoops, get a cup of coffee from Starbucks, get a plate at The Café or just mingle with friends and classmates in the common areas.
Whether students are logging time at the gym or grabbing a bite to eat, Slane has everything that an HPU student might need…including academic materials and HPU gear.
Over the summer, the campus bookstore and apparel shop was given a serious makeover. Located directly next to Slane’s Starbucks, High Point University Outfitters has new shiny floors, dazzling light fixtures, HPU wall decor and, of course, HPU merch.
High Point University Outfitters works in collaboration with Barnes & Noble College for everything that they sell in the Outfitters shop, as well as supplying students with their textbooks and other course materials.
For the redesign of the bookstore, Barnes and Noble College also chipped in to help with the project. They assisted with the new merch designs, as well as the remodel of the store itself.
Lyndsey Ayers is the Assistant Vice President for University Relations at HPU, and she was the head of this remodeling job.
“High Point University as a whole is ultimately looking at improvements,” said Ayers. “Every summer when students are gone, we’re always reevaluating upgrades that we can make and something we can do to make campus more friendly and engaging.”
The bookstore was redesigned so that the space would be utilized more efficiently for more merch and easier navigation through the store. The end goal was for the store to be more welcoming to students, parents and guests…as well as to have a cleaner, classier look.
To go along with the fresh redesign, Outfitters is now selling brand new HPU gear and merch. The store has all new apparel, accessories, dorm essentials and office decor. Several of these new merch items were created or brought back through student requests and feedback.
Students are loving the new store and the new options in stock. Many students are pleased that many of the new items have brand new designs.
“Compared to the old store, it’s definitely more up to date,” said Dominic Monaco, a junior game design student at HPU. “The fact that you can get more and better looking items gives me a reason to go there.”
The positive response from the student body hasn’t gone unheard from the people behind the redesign project, and the support from the students on campus is well appreciated.
“It’s just such a pleasure to get that student feedback because we’re very passionate about getting student feedback in general,” said Ayers. “We are very excited to have this upgraded bookstore for all of our students to enjoy and visitors of campus to enjoy.”
Students, parents and guests of HPU’s campus can visit the store in-person, or they can order directly from the Outfitters website.
