HPU names David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship
March 6, 2024
High Point University is not shy when it comes to expansion…more specifically, academic expansion.

Academics at HPU have grown substantially since Dr. Nido Qubein became president. Since 2005, HPU’s academic schools have jumped from three to 14 – and HPU shows no intention of slowing down any time soon.

Academics have been growing at a fast rate, all thanks to a $400 million academic expansion plan put into place. HPU has announced a brand new addition to their set of academics – the David. S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship.

HPU held a ceremony to announce the official name of the School of Entrepreneurship and reveal the new signage. David S. Congdon and HPU President Nido Qubein were in attendance for the ceremony.

In an HPU press release sent to parents and students, the school announced the David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship is set to officially open in 2025. When it opens, it will be North Carolina’s first private school of entrepreneurship and one of two schools of entrepreneurship in the entire state.

An entrepreneurship major is already established at HPU, and they say this new addition will prepare students with the life skills and mindset to start their own businesses, as well as come up with economic opportunities.

The Congdon Family has been longtime supporters of Dr. Qubein and HPU – and they continued their support by donating an eight-figure gift to the school that was put into the School of Entrepreneurship. This will be the second academic school named after Congdon, the first already established is the Congdon School of Health Sciences, which is housed in Congdon Hall along with the Fred Wilson School of Pharmacy.

With a new School of Entrepreneurship, it will offer several undergrad degree options – business administration in entrepreneurship, business administration in sales, event management and hospitality management. The David S. Congdon School of Entrepreneurship will reside in Plato S. Wilson Hall.

In the release, HPU included a statement from Congdon;

“First of all, I knew it would be done right and first class because Nido Qubein and this university know of no other way than to put their all into it,” said Congdon. “Secondly, I am so proud of High Point University and the way it has grown and succeeded. I am confident our investment will be used wisely, and this school will be a tremendous success.”

Along with this School of Entrepreneurship, HPU has promised a dental school, law school, nursing school, optometry school and a brand new $100 million library – all as a part of the $400 million academic expansion. This expansion is expected to be completed by the end of the 2024-2025 academic school year.
