About Us

Giving a Voice to the Voiceless

The View Point is a nonaffiliated campus newspaper for High Point University. It serves the High Point University community by giving a voice to those who feel they are unable to express their point of view on campus. This is a safe place for people to share their achievements, work and special events.

The newspaper is also a nonprofit newspaper. This means it does not accept funding from the university. The writers and editors work independently and have the power to choose what is published. To donate see our donation page

Our Story

The View Point was founded by Caroline Peacock, a journalism student at High Point University. Caroline decided to create the publication after she felt her voice was not being heard within the gates of the university. The concept of the newspaper is to give a voice to the voiceless or in this case the students.

Caroline felt that if she had to take journalism classes about the First Amendment then why was she not able to express her right to freedom of speech on campus. Since the university is a private institution, she knew she had to find a different way to express her concerns and write freely about community problems. So, she began her own publication. Now students can write-in, have the chance to be published and get their voice heard.
